Indonesian Cultural and Handicraft Exhibition in Latvia

The Indonesian embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, in association with the Sleman district administration and the Museum of Latvian Foreign Arts, organized an exhibition on Indonesian culture and handicrafts in Riga, capital of Latvia, on May 16-22.

The event was held for the first time in Latvia with the support of Sleman district head and honorary consul Ayub Yunus, an Indonesian embassy spokesman in Stockholm, Dedy Kusumonegoro, told Antara correspondent in London by phone Friday.

In the opening ceremony of the exhibition last Saturday, Javanese traditional dances were performed by dancers from Sleman, Yogyakarta.

During the exhibition, there was a presentation on Indonesian traditional cloth and batiks, and a demonstration of batik-making by batik cloth producers.

According to Dody, the event was held just to promote the potentials of Indonesian tourism like natural tourism, culture, adventures, leisure and accommodation facilities.

The embassy also held a press conference on the exhibition and other activities.
Many print and electronic media in Latvia including the Latvian Television station covered the exhibition.

According to Dody, the exhibition marked the enhanced relations between Indonesia and Latvia in culture and tourism, and also aimed at familiarizing the Latvian community with Indonesia and its rich culture.
